An Evening of Site-Specific Light and Projection Art on Saturday, May 7, 2011

New York, NY (May 2, 2011) – Francois-Henry Bennahmias, President of Audemars Piguet North America is proud to announce that the renowned Swiss watch company will be the official sponsor of FLASH: LIGHT (www.flashlightnyc.org) an evening of site-specific light and projection art beginning at 8:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 7, 2011 at Old St. Patrick’s Cathedral on Mulberry Street, New York City. Audemars Piguet is the world’s oldest watch company still in the hands of its founding families.
As a featured project of the New Museum’s Festival of Ideas for the New City, for one night only, the country’s oldest cathedral will be transformed into a spectacular nighttime environment of temporary, site-specific public art. The evening’s highlight will be the world premiere of a fully animated light installation by multi-media artist Jeff Grantz. The front of St. Patrick’s Old Cathedral will become a larger-than-life transparent time piece incorporating Audemars Piguet Signature movements and branding within the gears and mechanisms of the clock. This incomparable 3-D projection is the result of collaborations between Grantz, the Monsignor of the New York Archdiocese and Audemars Piguet.
“We are thrilled to be a part of this momentous art installation in New York City,” said Bennahmias. This bold project blurs the lines between tradition and modernity and its audacious nature reflects our philosophy.”
In addition, for the week leading up to May 7th, the American Eagle Outfitters electronic billboard in Times Square, the largest LED sign in North America, will advertise the event highlighting Audemars Piguet’s sponsorship to hundreds of thousands New Yorkers with two one-minute spots each hour featuring clips from participating artists.
