Audemars Piguet Sponsor Lam Chih-Bing

Audemars Piguet has synchronized its watches with Singaporean Lam Chih Bing by signing a sponsorship deal with the talented golfer.

Lam won last year’s Volvo Masters of Asia, which is the season-ending Tour Championship on the Asian Tour, and with his career going from strength to strength Audemars Piguet has made him its newest Ambassador.

Audemars Piguet has successfully branded its steadfast association in golfing. The brand has been active with a series of sponsoring and supporting amateur and professional tournaments and activities across the region. The 31 year old joins an elite group of players sponsored by Audemars Piguet which includes Vijay Singh from Fiji, Spaniard Miguel Angel Jimenez, England’s Lee Westwood, Northern Ireland’s Darren Clarke and Graeme McDowell. Lam will wear Audemars Piguet’s logo on his shirt and make appearances at their corporate events throughout the year.

“It is a great privilege to be sponsored by such great brand as Audemars Piguet. It is a special brand that distinguishes anyone who wears it. I am truly grateful for their support and I hope to continue to perform well on the golf course to justify their faith in me,” said Lam.

Lam’s victory in the Volvo Masters of Asia at Thai Country Club was his maiden Asian Tour title. It helped cap his best ever season as a professional player and earned him a cheque for US$135,000. Last year he also won the Mercedes-Benz Masters Indonesia on the Mercedes-Benz Tour and the Singapore PGA Championship. He also became the first player from his country to play all four rounds in the British Open.

“Lam has always had been great talent who has been on the cusp of being able to play at the very highest level. Audemars Piguet is thrilled that Lam has now broken through and is fulfilling his potential. We are looking forward to this new association with Lam who is clearly one of the excellent players to watch in Asia and a sporting icon in Singapore,” said Oliviero Bottinelli, CEO of Audemars Piguet Singapore Pte Ltd.

Lam claimed the Bilt Open on the Indian Tour towards the end of 2007 to signify that he was beginning to find his feet in the winners circle. Last year he contended at the Barclays Singapore Open where he played his way into the final match on Sunday alongside Phil Mickelson. He eventually finished equal 18th but the experience filled him with confidence andprior to winning in Thailand he ended equal sixth in the Hana Bank Vietnam Masters and wasrunner-up at the Johnnie Walker Cambodian Open.

He has also played in the World Cup three times with compatriot Mardan Mamat – in 2002, 2005 and 2006 - and first qualified to play in the British Open in 2007.
