De Grisogono Luxury Watches: Hollywood domino launches over Oscar week the game phenomenon hitting stores in 2008

The game phenomenon ‘Hollywood Domino’, currently the favourite past time of Hollywood’s ‘A-List’ and due to hit stores internationally in late 2008, launched in appropriate style on Thursday 21st February 2008 at the Beverley Hills Hotel, Los Angeles – at the first, inaugural ‘Hollywood Domino Tournament’.

The Tournament, sponsored by the luxury International jewellery and watch company De Grisogono and hosted by Daya Fernandez and Fawaz Gruosi (Founder, de Grisogono), saw Hollywood’s great and good arriving in 1940’s ‘A Night in Havana’-inspired black-tie in order to support the event’s charity partner, The Art of Elysium, and battle against one another to be crowned ‘Master’ (Domino derives from the Latin dominus meaning ‘Master’).

Players on the evening included Demi Moore, Penelopé Cruz, Charlize Theron, Salma Hayek, Ashton Kutcher and Olivier Martinez to name a few. All were gifted with a specially created Gold and black Diamond ‘Hollywood Domino bracelet’, created by de Grisogono’s ateliers in Geneva. The last round of the game ended in a battle between Charlize Theron, Olivier Martinez, Ashton Kutcher and Demi Moore, ending with Charlize Theron winning. The prize was a customised ‘Instrumento N°Uno’ de Grisogono watch as well as a cheque from Fawaz Gruosi for her to donate to a charity of choice.

Proceeds from the event will benefit a non-profit organization for children “The Art of Elysium”. Founded in 1997 in California by Jennifer Howell, “The Art of Elysium” encourages working actors, artists and musicians to voluntarily dedicate their time and talent to children who are battling serious medical conditions. It provides artistic workshops in the following disciplines: acting, art, comedy, Fashion and music.

The Tournament is the official launch of the ‘Hollywood Domino’ game that will be hitting stores across the world later in 2008 – allowing everyone to take part in Tinsletown’s favourite pastime.

 

The Game

Hollywood Domino allows players to become a Director of their own film. They choose their genre, and start competing to create a movie reel before their competitors. With unique elements including ‘Blockbusters’, ‘Sequels’, ‘Trilogies’ and of course, ‘Oscar Domino’, Hollywood Domino is the next generation Dominoes game that everyone has been waiting for.

Hollywood Dominoes is a variation of Classic Dominoes, in which players lay their dominoes out from a central stand (‘the Studio’). In addition to being able to lay your dominoes on your lane (‘Reel’), there is an independent lane (‘the Red Carpet’), on which anyone can play. Only one domino is allowed to be laid down on any go, and the winner is the first player to get rid of all their pieces.

However, if you cannot play any of your pieces, then you have to pick up an additional domino (‘going over budget’) and, in addition, open your lane for the use of all other players. The creation of features such as a ‘Blockbuster’ (laying all your pieces on the first go), and the making of ‘Sequels’ and ‘Trilogies’ (laying additional ‘double’ dominoes) add to both the competitiveness and the addictiveness of the game, as players compete to win the affection of the ultimate prize ‘Oscar Domino’. Just beware the tear filled winner’s speeches that follow…
