Rare Patek Philippe Chronographs Star In Antiquorum's May 2009 Auction

Two exceptional vintage Patek Philippe wristwatches will be among the most anticipated items for sale when Antiquorum conducts its upcoming auction in Geneva on May 9th and 10th. An exceptional square-button split-seconds chronograph in stainless steel, Ref. 1436 represents one of Patek Philippe's most elusive creations. Produced in 1945 and sold in 1949, this chronograph model is one of only four known to have been manufactured in stainless steel.

Adding to this already exceptional provenance of this Ref. 1436 is its status as one of only two attributed to a first generation series. According to Antiquorum, this is the first time that a Patek Philippe Ref. 1436 wristwatch in stainless steel has ever been offered for sale at auction; accordingly, the pre-sale estimate is appropriately high: SFr 600,000-800,000.

Another exhibit of great interest is a unique 18-karat yellow gold single-button split-seconds chronograph from 1928, which Patek Philippe produced for retailer Tiffany & Co.  The dial, which features a vertical subdial arrangement, features luminous Arabic hour markers, and the designation "Tiffany & Co, Switzerland". The round case features elegant and distinctive mobile lugs. Pre-sale estimates stand at SFr 800,000-1.2 million.

Antiquorum will conduct their May auction from Geneva's luxurious Grand Hotel Kempinski. Pre-sale previews will be held in Shanghai, Hong Kong, and Geneva.
